Guild of Master Craftsmen member Daniel Fitzpatrick rekindles this ancient art in his quest to make the finest forms from solid woods. From elaborate ornamental pilasters bound for shop displays, to intricate classic staircase spindles and elegant woodenware bowls, Daniel is skilled to create them all using traditional wood turning techniques and quality timbers including pine, oak, maple, beech, ash, walnut, cherry, purple heart, red gum, sycamore and any other requested timber.

Daniel is able to bring to life inspirational artwork and wood ware establishing a reputation for high quality work with a unique edge. Reclaiming the dying art of wooden bowl making Daniel creates unique designs to form artistic, yet functional wood ware. The precarious process of turning bowls from a single piece of wood leaves little room for error and can only be achieved by the most gifted craftsmen.

Employed by leading London based interior design company Elemental Design Daniel was commissioned to produce a range of barley twist pilasters to be used to display designer brand goods in a Knightsbridge department store. Daniel delivered a perfectlty matching set of high quality wood turned barley twist pilasters from fine oak which looked fantastic in situation. Feedback on the quality of Daniel's handmade pilasters by the high profile London client was excellent. Emphasising how Daniel's detailed barley twists had produced a stunning display, the client looked forward to working with Daniel on future projects.

Working from his craft workshop in the Yorkshire village of Honley, near Holmfirth, Guild of Master Craftsmen member Daniel Fitzpatrick continues the ancient crafts of wood turning, cabinet-making and carving to make the finest furniture forms from solid woods. Daniel brings this dying craft to life using methods little changed over hundreds of years to produce original furniture of classic and contemporary design.

The traditionally made solid wood legs added a stylish modern look to Flexiform's contemporary furniture and established a lasting relationship between Daniel and Flexiform.

From standard staircases to bespoke staircases with elaborate designs, Daniel manufactures each type in his on site craft workshop, while welcoming customers to join him to view their staircase being made. With each specialist timber product being fully hand crafted and finished with care, Daniel is able to produce the highest quality handmade wood staircases and balconies to order.

Since 1998 Daniel has turned and carved the highest quality timbers to produce fine quality newel posts built to last for generations. Using traditional techniques Daniel is able to accomplish elegant conventional curves such as barley twists and rope twists to gun barrel flutes through to even more complex designs.

Daniel's traditional wood tuning skills are complimented by his ability to produce fine cabinets and furniture. This capacity to demonstrate versatility on projects offers clients an extensive of range of solutions and expertise. Taylor Made engaged Daniel to meet specific requirements by creating a suite of fine quality bespoke handmade cabinets. The cabinets featured flush framed drawers and doors, with mortised and tenoned joints, solid oak torus style skirting and a beautiful deep solid oak top, oiled to contrast the quality Farrow and Ball, White Tie cabinet finish.

Like craftsmen of old, Daniel turns and carves the highest quality timbers to produce fine wood spindles. From conventional curves to more elegant fluted designs, Daniel uses time honoured methods to achieve the most intricate spindle designs on the lathe. The spindles Daniel produces are sought nationwide by the trade, domestic customers and high end, mainly London based interior design companies.

Using time honoured techniques Daniel is able to turn and carve elaborately designed pilasters from a wide range of quality timbers. Faced with the difficult tasks of sourcing historical furniture parts Traditional Windows approached Daniel to create a selection of bespoke replacement furniture and fittings needed to complete the renovation of a exclusive historic private residence. From the difficult task of working from photographs of the originals, shown underneath, Daniel turned the above identical staircase newel posts and thirty eight spindles to the highest standard as replacements for the unique originals. Traditional Windows were extremely satisfied with the approach Daniel took and the likeness achieved.

From conventional to elaborate designs, Daniel crafts a comprehensive range of stair parts to order. Crafted from a wide range of timbers and traditionally produced on lathes Daniel offers a range of timber stair parts including barley twists, fluted work, newel caps, cones, as well as custom work. Where possible Daniel prefers to use reclaimed wood or timber from renewable sources.
